Moseley’s path to greatness gently meandered from a rural farm in Malvern, England, all the way to Downhill and Enduro Mountain Bike World Champion. Her experience shows that through perseverance, embracing change, and nurturing passion, we can find fulfilment and achieve the incredible.
From farm to fame
Moseley’s journey to the world stage started on her family’s farm where she and her brother Ed would ride bikes for fun.
Ed competed in local races, and after a few years of supporting him, she was encouraged to give racing a try herself. Moseley then realized that her talent on the bike surpassed other riders. She started racing more frequently, and the events got bigger and bigger.
According to Moseley, the start of her career was “a spiral of me enjoying it, having fun, being successful,” she said, “and then it grew and snowballed from there until I started racing professionally.”
Embracing change
After finding harmony racing downhill professionally for 11 years, Moseley decided that she had accomplished everything she’d hoped for within the discipline. She needed more from her bike racing and was searching for something else. It was time to make a switch.
In 2011, professional enduro mountain biking was evolving, so she decided to give it a try. Within one year, Moseley found herself back at the top again, racing in the World Enduro Series.
This surprise pivot profoundly impacted her outlook on the sport. Rather than resist, she openly embraced the change. Moseley leaned into the opportunity to expand her abilities, leading to a new outlook on her racing career. Within three years, she had three more world titles.
Though her enduro entry was unplanned, fully engaging in the sport led Moseley to gracefully reach new heights on the bike.
Finding joy outside of racing
Retirement initially daunted Moseley, as with many athletes. But starting a family beckoned and the high-cadence nature of racing professionally wouldn’t be sustainable much longer.
“Stopping racing is one of the hardest things any athlete is going to find,” Moseley said, “going from that life of selfishness, of having the structure, having your calendar planned out for the year, to suddenly not having those goals and to get that same buzz. It’s a tough transition.”
What was daunting at first soon filled Moseley’s life with an abundance of happiness and a newfound sense of adventure. She made the decision to take a step back from racing and start a family of her own. These days, Moseley tends to swap her race bike for an e-bike and finds immense joy in riding to school with her son, Toby. While the rides to school may be short, they bring her more happiness than any trophy could.
The Joy of Riding with Toby
A simple joy for Tracy Moseley is riding e-bikes to school with son Toby. Sharing outdoor adventures and cycling thrill with her child brings Moseley immense happiness. Though a short trip, these rides provide lasting bonds. Her story shows life’s greatest rewards can come from small moments. Moseley treasures the memory of breezing along with her boy, savouring the breeze and his laughter. This time together outdoors lights up her world more than any trophy.
Giving back and growing community
Even as Moseley’s racing career peaked, her commitment to her local cycling community never wavered.
She established T-MO Racing to kindly empower young area cyclists, offering them chances to compete nationally. By giving back to the roots that grew her love of the sport, Moseley shows that when we support each other, we all thrive. Even in achieving individual greatness, remembering your community enriches the journey.
