Trek named to TIME100 Most Influential Companies in 2022 Trek Bicycle honored for sustainability efforts, including first-of-its-kind Sustainability Report
TIME included Trek Bicycle in their second annual TIME100 Most Influential Companies list for the company’s work in 2021 to use bikes as a force for good. An extension of the annual TIME100 list of the world’s most influential people, the TIME100 Most Influential Companies list highlights 100 companies making an extraordinary impact around the world.
In 2021, Trek became the first bicycle company to complete a full emissions audit and share the findings in their Sustainability Report. The report is the first of its kind in the cycling industry and has changed the conversation on how bike companies can use business for good. The 10 key sustainability efforts outlined in the report and which Trek is investing in include reducing reliance on air freight, consolidating shipping to retailers, increasing use of renewable energy, reducing corporate travel, increasing use of alternative materials, creating zero-landfill manufacturing facilities, removing plastic waste, increasing access to bike share, increasing cycling mode share as well as establishing and protecting new trails.
Additionally, Trek launched The Trek Foundation to protect land and develop trail systems for public use. Trek also expanded BCycle, its bike share program, to more cities across the U.S. thus providing access to mobility on two wheels to even more people.
In 2022, the company will release the second edition of its Sustainability Report, detailing Trek’s progress toward long-term goals as well as new actions the company has taken to lower its environmental impact. Trek will also expand The Trek Foundation to protect more land and develop more trails for public use.
To assemble the list, TIME solicited nominations from every sector—ranging from health care and entertainment to transportation and technology—from editors and correspondents around the world, as well as from industry experts. Then, TIME editors evaluated each one on key factors, including relevance, impact, innovation, leadership, and success. See the full list here.
